Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, Edinburgh

Quietness: ★★★★★

Nestled in Edinburgh’s New Town, just a block from the bustling Princes Street, the Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel feels like a hidden retreat. Overlooking a private garden, it gives an atmosphere of tranquility in the city center. I was fortunate to stay in Room 581, an end unit on the top floor. The windows faced a quiet rooftop yard rather than the street, making it even more peaceful. I spent two nights here and slept soundly; the room itself was spacious and well laid out. My tip: request a top-floor room for good night’s sleep.

The hotel is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. You’ll stumble upon interesting touches throughout—like a reel of Gone with the Wind displayed on the third floor. Its signature restaurant, Baba, is among the finest Mediterranean spots I’ve tried. Their lunch special—mezze, grill, and a side for only £22—is excellent value and delicious. Baba also hosts the breakfast buffet (complimentary for Marriott Elite members) and transforms into a lively bar in the evening. The Garden, the hotel’s coffee shop in the courtyard, is filled with lush greenery that lives up to its name.

The location is ideal: just a ten-minute walk from the picturesque Dean Village and steps away from Princes Street. My pro tip: stop by Black Sheep Coffee on Princes Street and head upstairs—you’ll get a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle while sipping your coffee.

In summary: The Kimpton Charlotte Square is a luxurious oasis in the heart of Edinburgh, offering quiet elegance, stylish design, and a perfect base for exploring the city.
