Quietness: ★★★★★
The Montague on the Gardens was recommended by my friend as his favorite hotel in London and I can see why. It is one of the most British hotels I have stayed in during my years of traveling in the UK. Formed from 200-year-old Georgian townhouses, the hotel celebrates period heritage in every corner. The lovely lounge, for example, is decorated in Victorian style with a Maximalist color palette.
Guest rooms: Each guest room is individually styled and decorated, with no two alike—making every stay a new adventure. During my second one, I stayed in a guest room with a unique multi-story layout: a bedroom overlooking the garden, a full-size work desk in the middle and a bathroom upstairs by the entrance. While some people might find the stairs cumbersome, I felt quite cozy and secure sleeping down in the bedroom.
Quietness: Despite being next door to the British Museum, the hotel is located on a quiet street. I could not hear a thing from my garden-view guest room, thanks to its double panel windows.
Dining: the hotel serves excellent English breakfast in their charming Blue Door Bistro. In addition, they have a leopard-themed bar and a garden terrace where you can enjoy their authentic English afternoon tea. I tried the bar food in the Leopard Bar and their shrimp tempura was delicious.
