Quietness: ★★★★★
Quietness: Set in the financial district near the West End, the hotel is removed from the tourist hustle and bustle. Because there was almost no ground level business in Festival Square and the surrounding Exchange District, the place felt a little deserted and we wondered if we came to the wrong place when we first arrived. Our guest room overlooked the center of the district with sparse foot traffic. We thoroughly enjoyed the quietness throughout our stay there.
Location: Once we stepped outside the Festival Square, the city became live! Usher Hall and The Lyceum Theatre were both right across the street from the hotel, from where we could either go shopping on the Princes Street or walk to the Royal Mile in no time.
Rooms: Our guest room was spacious per UK standard. The bathroom came with both a shower and a bath tub. The beds were firm and comfortable. Our only regret is we did not get a complimentary upgrade to their signature castle-view guest rooms due to the busy summer season.
Dining: As Marriott Platinum members, we enjoyed not only the breakfast buffet but also ordered from the La carte menu, all complimentary from the hotel. We dined at the hotel restaurant a few times during our trip—the food was consistently delicious, and surprisingly reasonably priced for a hotel of this caliber.
